about
There’s so much to discover!
Advances in our understanding of the mind and body continue to affirm what we may have known intuitively, but don’t always make the time to really take in: Each of us is a beautifully complex creature worth paying close attention to. This attention provides not only the opportunity for understanding, but a path to transforming the ways we move through the world.
What happens for you as she turns away from you? What comes to mind as soon as you hear his demand?
In our work together, we will safely explore those moment-to-moment responses. Each response you make is made up of a constellation of various physical, mental, and emotional impulses. Often, the ways they coalesce lead to even more shame, pain and blame. But as hard as it may be to believe, the truth is that they each have a function intended to protect your best interests. You may be surprised to learn that you make perfect sense – and that you have the power to make some adjustments if you want to.
Rather than attempt to jettison (or even destroy) the parts you don’t like, we will work together to help you foster the curiosity, clarity, and compassion needed to reorganize them in ways that bring you the relief you seek. You can become the captain of your ship, directing your voyage from a place of creativity, confidence, and calm.
Such a “zen”-like and optimistic posture toward coping with pain may be right up your alley – OR you may be rolling your eyes and moving to close your browser! One moment please – I promise I’m no Pollyanna!
About Me
I like to think that my philosophy strikes a balance between a striving for peace and hope and a firmly held conviction that a lot of things are really, really awful.
I’ve joked that if I wrote a book it would be called, “Everything Is Terrible and Nothing Makes Sense (And How to Keep Going Anyway).” The truth is, by embracing our dark parts and acknowledging the worst, we make space for the good stuff, too.
As a lover of horror movies and roller coasters, I’m a big fan of what my own therapist termed “safe-scary.” My aim is to guide you through your darkness in a way that is at once slow and careful enough to prevent further harm, and real and meaningful enough to create transformation. My approaches are drawn from my formal training in integrative, trauma-informed techniques, including Sensorimotor Psychotherapy℠, Trauma-Informed Stabilization Treatment (TIST/Janina Fisher), Relational Life Therapy (RLT/Terry Real) and Psychobiological Approach to Couples Therapy (PACT).
I hold a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology and a Bachelor of Arts in Theater Arts. My experiences in the entertainment industry have informed my understanding of the unique challenges faced by those in creative professions.
Whatever challenges you face, you shouldn’t miss the incredible opportunity therapy provides to untangle and reintegrate our messy human experiences. I’d love to join you in your mess – and support your mastery of it!
